Sewage backup cleanup is not a do-it-yourself job. RapidRestore24 handles sewage backup cleanup in Marietta and metro Atlanta, removing contaminated water and materials safely. We answer our phone 24/7.

Sewage backups are more than a mess: the water carries bacteria and viruses, and you have to treat anything it soaks into as contaminated. RapidRestore24 removes sewage, cleans and sanitizes the affected area, and repairs the damage, for homes and businesses across metro Atlanta.
Keep yourself safe
- Keep children and pets away from the affected area.
- Do not touch sewage water or soaked materials without gloves and boots, and wash thoroughly afterwards.
- Stop using sinks, toilets, showers and the washing machine until someone fixes the cause; more water will back up.
- Turn off power to the area if water is near outlets, and only if it is safe.
- Take photos before cleanup starts.
Common causes
- Blocked or root-damaged sewer lines
- Heavy rain overwhelming city sewers, which can push water back into basements and low drains
- Collapsed or aging sewer laterals in older homes
- Septic system failures
How we clean up a sewage backup
Contain and extract. First, we remove contaminated water and solids and contain the area so the contamination does not spread.
Remove contaminated materials. Porous materials that sewage has soaked into, such as carpet and pad, drywall at the bottom of walls and insulation, usually cannot be saved, so we remove and dispose of them.
Clean and sanitize. Next, we clean hard surfaces and treat them with disinfectant.
Dry. Then we dry the structure with air movers and dehumidifiers, and moisture readings confirm it is dry.
Repair. Finally, we replace drywall, flooring and finishes.
A plumber will need to clear or repair the line that caused the backup. We handle everything the sewage damaged.
Insurance
Sewer backup is often excluded from standard homeowners policies unless you have a sewer or water backup endorsement, so check your policy. We document the damage and the work with photos and records either way. See also our water damage restoration page.

Why sewage backup cleanup is different
The EPA advises calling a professional experienced with contaminated water when damage was caused by sewage (EPA guidance). Sewage backup cleanup includes removing affected porous materials, cleaning and disinfecting, then drying. Learn more about water damage remediation, storm and flood damage and mold remediation.
